The Petris

Charles Petri.

Charles Hubert Petri Sr.

Charles Petri on his farm in Rutledge Texas.

Charles Hubert PETRI was born in Germany 12 February 1856.   He died 24 February 1922 in Williamson County Texas.  According to family researchers, Charles PETRI was a palace guard to Kaiser Wilhelm I and Kaiser Wilhelm II at the Charlottenburg palace in Berlin Germany.  Charles PETRI was also one of the builders of the Texas State Capital; his wife was a cook there, in a tent on the East Lawn.  Family researchers say that one of their children, Charles, was born on the East Lawn of the Texas State Capital during that time.

Clara Mossler Petri.

Charles married Clara MOSSLER.  Clara was born 10 June 1856 in Germany, and died 14 May 1908 in Williamson County Texas.  Per the 1900 Williamson County Texas census, Charles arrived in the United States in 1881, Clara arrived in 1882.  As they had been married 23 years, Charles and Clara (MOSSLER) PETRI were apparently married in Germany.  In the 1900 census, Clara was the mother of nine children, five living.  Charles and Clara PETRI are buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

Known children of Charles and Clara (MOSSLER) PETRI:

ii.  Arthur Otto PETRI, born in Germany 3 December 1880, died in Williamson County Texas 13 February 1927.  “Arther” is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

iii.  Charles Hubert “Charlie” PETRI Jr.,  born in Texas 14 September 1885, died in Austin Texas 17 September 1970.  Per family researchers, Charles was a born in a tent on the East Lawn of the Texas State Capital, while his father was one one of the builders, and his mother was a cook.   Charlie married Martha Frances THOMPSON, daughter of William Henry and Martha Ann (SMITH) THOMPSON who are buried in the Walden section of Pond Springs Cemetery.

Emil Petri

iv.  Emil H. PETRI, born in Texas 27 October 1887, died in San Francisco California 12 May 1963.  The Social Security Death Index gives his middle initial as “H”.  I BELIEVE Emil is in the 1930 census twice, once as a United States Navy Lieutenant stationed at Charleston, South Carolina, and the second time as a United States Navy Lieutenant and husband of Elsie/father of Dessa, in the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas Island).

v.  Edward “Eddie” Rudolph PETRI, born in Texas 22 February 1892.  In the 1900 Williamson County Texas census, this child was incorrectly listed as a daughter.  In the 1910 Williamson County Texas census, this child was a son.  Per his WWI Registration (Williamson County Texas), Eddie was tall, had gray eyes and light brown hair.  Eddie married Geneva Knox THOMPSON, daughter of William Henry and Martha Ann (SMITH) THOMPSON who are buried in the Walden section of Pond Springs Cemetery.

Many thanks to descendant Alyssa for the photos.
