The Lees – Two family groups appear unrelated

George Washington LEE was born in Jonesboro, Clayton County, Georgia in January of 1846, and died 27 January 1928 in Leander, Williamson County Texas.  He is is buried in Bagdad Cemetery.  He married Sarah Catherine WEST in Travis County Texas 14 August 1873.  Sarah was born 29 April 1856 in Giles County Tennessee and died 29 June 1938 in Leander, Williamson County, Texas.  Sarah is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

Known children of George Washington and Sarah Catherine (WEST) LEE:

i.  Jesse Oliver LEE, born in Texas 7 June 1877, died 30 March 1913.  Jesse is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery, and has one of the most distinctive headstones there (Woodmen of the World).

ii.  Louella LEE, born in Texas 8 December 1875.  No further information.

iii.  Carrie Bell LEE, born in Williamson County Texas 19 November 1879, died 9 November 1935 in Concho County Texas.  Married W. Frank McINTYRE.

iv.  Bessie C. LEE, born in Texas 5 April 1881, died 10 December 1902.  In May/June 1900, Bessie married William/Willis Benjamin  GADDY, as the couple can be found in the 1900 Robertson County Texas census (taken 1 & 2 June 1900) as having been married “0/12” months.   William was born 29 April 1876 in Georgia, and died 24 July 1960 in Lubbock Texas.  Bessie GADDY is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery, next to her brother Jesse.  I feel she likely died in childbirth.  The pedestal of her stone is still there but the (probably tall) headstone is missing.  Only her footstone with her initials remains, as any clue of who is buried there.

v.  Roy G. LEE, born in Williamson County Texas 26 January 1884, died Williamson County Texas 19 January 1918.  Roy is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.  In the 1910 Burnet County census, Roy is listed as single, with a group of other “railroaders”.   By the time of  his 1918 death certificate, he is married.  No further information.

vi.  Etta May LEE, born in Williamson County Texas 7 May 1886, died Williamson County Texas 26 October 1939, buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.  May married Bert ANDERSON (1886-1965); Bert was the informant on his brother-in-law Roy’s death certificate.

vii.  Monroe/Monrow “Roe” LEE, born in Williamson County Texas 29 May 1890, died 30 November 1948 in Dallas Texas.  Monrow was married twice, first to Hattie _____ in Dallas 1919, second to Rubye Gladys RIVERS (2 children).

viii.  Julia Maude LEE, born in Williamson County Texas 24 June 1893.  No further information.

ix.  Grover Cleveland “Cleve” LEE, born in Williamson County Texas 28 February 1895, died Tom Green County Texas 2 July 1951.  He married Ida May GRAY in 1919.  No further information.

x.  Katie LEE, born in Williamson County Texas 13 November 1897, died 12 June 1971 in Travis County Texas.  Married Richard Lee ROBBINS.

In another section of the cemetery, there are more LEEs.  I do not think the two families are related.

Pleasant B. LEE was born ca. 1830 in North Carolina, and died 1870-1880 either in Louisiana (Cameron County perhaps) or in Texas (Caldwell County perhaps).  He married Lucy Ann MIMS in Stewart County Georgia 25 January 1849.  Lucy was born to Calvin and Elizabeth (DELK) MIMS in Georgia 25 July 1825, and died in Williamson County Texas 19 February 1896.  Lucy is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery; the first stone encountered upon entry of the cemetery (on the left).  This family has been somewhat more difficult to trace.

Known children:

i.  Amanda LEE, born ca. 1850 in Georgia

ii.  Cleand D. (Cleveland?) LEE, born ca. 1851 in Louisiana.  Possibly died by 1860.

iii.  Henry B. LEE, born 10 March 1852 in Louisiana, died 25 December 1923.  Married first to Mollie May _____ (14 October 1864-3 Feb 1907 Burnet County Texas).  Mollie is buried next to Henry’s mother Lucy.   Married second to Susan MURPHY.  Daughters Susan and Fannie E.

iv.  Mary F. LEE, born ca. 1854 in Louisiana.  No further information.

v.  Josephine LEE, born ca. 1857 in Louisiana.  No further information.

vi.  William S. LEE, born ca. 1859 in Louisiana.  Married Laura A. _____.  One of their children Edgar Earnest LEE (17 August 1896-12 July 1900), is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

vii.  Louisa LEE, born ca. 1862 in Louisiana.  No further information.

viii.  Robert E. LEE, born ca. 1864 in Louisiana.  No further information.

ix.  Virginia Alice LEE, born ca. 1866 in Louisiana.  No further information.
