The Wards

Richard and Charlsie WARD ca 1915

Many thanks to Carolyn for the family photos and information.

Richard Rhodes WARD was born in on 17 January 1854 in Cameron, Milan County Texas to Jacob A. and Mary (SMITH) WARD.  He married Charlsie Ann PEAL/PEEL/PEELE (daughter of Thomas PEAL)  in Milam County Texas 19 November 1874.  By 1900, Richard and Charlsie had moved to Burnet County Texas; Charlsie was the mother of 10 children, 8 living.  In the 1910 census, she was the mother of 11 children, 8 living.  Since Charlsie was born 17 January 1858, she shared the same birthdate as her husband.   Charlsie died in Williamson County Texas 19 November 1930 “suddenly just after getting into automobile”;  Richard died in Williamson County Texas on 13 June 1939.  Both are buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

Known children of Richard and Charlsie (PEEL) WARD:

i.  Jacob Robert WARD, born in Cameron, Milam County Texas 2 July 1878, died in Travis County Texas 17 March 1955.  Married Ellen Louise KING.  Their son, John Richard WARD (born and died 6 October 1902)  is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery with his WARD grandparents.  Jacob and Ellen (KING) WARD are buried in Florence Cemetery.

ii.  Richard Archer WARD, born in Cameron, Milam County Texas January 1880.  No further info; appears to have died in infancy.

iii.  Emma May “Sissy” WARD, born in Cameron, Milam County Texas 27 December 1881, died in Belton, Bell County Texas 20 December 1964.   Married James Nathan KING in 1900.  There is an Ellen KING buried in the Ward family plot, I assume she is their daughter.  James and Emma (WARD) KING are buried in Belton Cemetery, Belton Texas.

iv.  Mary Ann WARD, born in Cameron, Milam County Texas 24 September 1883.  Married Charles Elias BEAM.  Both are buried in Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery, Beeville Texas.

viii.  Claude Avis WARD, born in Texas 28 May 1894, died in Austin, Travis County Texas September 1969.  Married Minnie Sota COWAN.  Their son, Virgil Von WARD (8 October 1918 – 18 Dec 1918) is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery with his WARD grandparents.  Avis and Minnie are both buried in Austin Memorial Cemetery.

WARD Claude Avis & Minnie. Claude was Charlsie and Richard’s son, Virgil’s parents.

ix.  “Bird” WARD, born in Texas 30 March 1898.  Burt Clay Ward died 24 January  1932 and is buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.  Married Elsie.

x.  Pinkie WARD, born in Texas 24 April 1901, died in Williamson County Texas 14 May 1904.  Buried Pond Springs Cemetery.

xi.  John Richard WARD, born and died 6 October 1902, buried Pond Springs Cemetery.

To me, this seems like such a close-knit family.  Richard and Charlsie are buried in the same family plot with one son, one daughter, and three grandchildren.  If you are a descendant and would like to share anything about this family (especially photos!), please contact this blog.

Many thanks to descendant Carolyn, Ancestry.com, Find-A-Grave.com, FamilySearch.com (LDS), Footnote.com
