The Boateright Tree

Boateright Oak Facing West

The Boaterght Tree is the large Live Oak Tree near the Lake Creek entrance of the cemetery. I believe the Boateright Family planted this Oak to mark their family plot in what was at the time the rear of the cemetery. The tree is on the right hand side as one enters the cemetery with the plague honoring John Boatright underneath it. Spencer Boateright, John’s son, is also buried there as are many other unidentified graves. On the North side of the tree a few feet away are 3 graves; sisters Vivian and Eula Henry and their cousin Wade Henry.  Around and near the trunk area to the West and South are unidentified graves that I believe to be other Boateright relatives. One relative that could be buried there is Alvin Jackson whose mother was a Boateright. This magnificent tree was nominated for Austin Tree of the Year 2011. We at PSHCA hope the tree will win.       —Buster
