Names without a Stone: James Madison and Nancy J (THOMPSON) ENNIS

James Madison ENNIS was born in Arkansas in 22 March 1848 (November 1845 per the1900 Williamson County Texas census) .  His parents were Rev. John Riley ENNIS and Susannah AARON.  In 1864, he married Nancy J. THOMPSON, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Ann (O’DANIEL) THOMPSON who are buried in the Walden section of Pond Springs Cemetery.  Nancy was born in Arkansas 28 May 1848, and died14 August 1903.  In the 1900 Williamson County Texas census, she was the mother of eleven children, eight were living.   James died 7 September 1908 and per the 1964 transcription, he is buried in the Walden section of Pond Springs Cemetery [presumably next to his wife]  No stones exists for James or Nancy, and no death certificates have been found.

Known children of James Madison and Nancy J. (THOMPSON) ENNIS:

i.  Lee ENNIS.  No further info.

ii.  Ara C. ENNIS, born November 29, 1870, died 1946 in Austin TX. She married William David Walden in 1901 and raised his 6 children plus 6 of hers and William’s.

iii.  Walter ENNIS, born in Arkansas ca. 1874.  Lived to 1880 at lease.  No further info.

iv.  Cora Arbana ENNIS, born in Arkansas 26 March 1875, died 2 March 1915.  Cora is also buried in the Walden section of Pond Springs Cemetery, next to her husband, Richard Lincoln PREECE.

v.  Loretta ENNIS, born in Arkansas September 1880.  Lived to 1900 at least.  No further info.

vi.  Malcolm Elmer ENNIS, born in Arkansas 4 December 1882, died 11 August 1958 in Mexia, Limestone County Texas.

vii.  Lena M. ENNIS, born in Arkansas April 1885.

viii.  Ida V. ENNIS, born in Arkansas 28 October 1887/1888, died 25 June 1964.  Married a TURNER.  Buried Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin Texas.

ix.  Minnie M. ENNIS, born in Arkansas April 1890.

  1. Ara Clementine Ennis was born 11/29/1870, died 1946 in Austin TX. She married William David Walden in 1901 and raised his 6 children plus 6 of hers and William’s. She was my step-great grandmother.
