Dasie Adams – Granddaughter of John Brooks

Next to Elizabeth (BROOKS) BOOKER is a tiny Unknown.  The only clue was a footstone engraved “DDA”.  Using information provided in the 1964 Transcription of the cemetery, it was deduced that this little one can only be Daisie Adams.  Elizabeth (BROOKS) BOOKER was Dasie’s aunt.

Like so many others, Dasie’s tombstone has been stolen or otherwise removed from the site by person(s) currently unknown.  Which by the way is a State Felony.

According to the 1964 transcription, her stone used to read “In Memory of Little Daughter of JT & NA ADAMS Born Dec 25 1879, Died Jan 17 1880.  Suffer Little Children to come unto Me for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven”.

John T ADAMS/ADDAMS was born 20 June 1855.  He married Nancy Adeline “Nannie” BROOKS 26 January 1876.  Nancy, born 20 March 1857 in Missouri, was the daughter of John and Mary BROOKS.  John BROOKS is also buried in Pond Springs Cemetery; as he died 14 years after granddaughter Dasie, I like to imagine that he was at her funeral.

In 1880, John and Nancy ADAMS can be found in Williamson County Texas with daughter Callie.  The census was taken in June 1880 and Daisy is actually enumerated, even though she died the previous January; a line is marked through her name.  To me, this just shows the refusal to accept her death.  In 1900, John lived in Hamilton County Texas as a “boarder” , while Nannie lived in Erath County Texas with her mother and children.  She was the mother of 5 children, 4 living.  In 1910, John and Nancy are in the Hamilton County Texas census.

John ADAMS died 19 November 1914 in Hamilton County Texas.  Nancy died 30 November 1937.  Both are buried, with Nancy’s mother Mary CARTEE BROOKS, in Carlton Cemetery, Hamilton County Texas.

Known children of John T. and Nancy Adeline (BROOKS) ADAMS:

i.  James Monroe ADAMS, born in Texas 5 March 1876, died in Hamilton County Texas 15 January 1952

ii.  Callie ADAMS, born in Texas 27 April 1877, died March 1962.

iiI.  Daisy D. ADAMS, born in Texas Christmas Day 1879, died in Williamson County Texas 17 January 1880.  Buried in Pond Springs Cemetery.

iv.  Georgia Mae. ADAMS, born in Texas September 1881.

v.  Lina A. ADAMS, born in Texas 12 January 1887, died 15 October 1972.
