Names Without Stones, Compiled List-To-Date

OK, so we have stones with names, stones with no names, graves with no stones-

Here’s to the Names with no Stones:

(A line drawn through the name means that a stone has been placed, or research has revealed that the person is not buried in Pond Springs)

A.  These are from the 1964 transcription, stones now missing, alphabetical by last name:

CHAPMAN, Edna Lou.  Per her death certificate, she was born to JL and Julia May (RIFFE) CHAPMAN in Williamson County Texas on 17 November 1915, and died in Williamson County Texas on 22 August 1921.  JL CHAPMAN informant.  Since descendants placed a stone to her memory in 2011, in future blog entries Edna will no longer be on the “Names with no Stones” list.

1.  DAVIS, Ethel.  Per her death certificate, Ethel was born in Cedar Park Texas to William Norris and Ruth (JACKSON) DAVIS on 29 December 1921.  She died the same day and was buried in “Cedar Park”  Her doctor, GW STEVENS was the informant.  Please review my “Davis Girls” post; I do not feel that the information on her death certificate is accurate.

2.  ELLER, Andy (ca. 1900-1910/1920).  I have located a WWI Registration Card for an Andy ELLER.  He was born 31 July 1900, and at the time he lived in Milam County Texas.  His nearest relative was JT ELLER (“Our” Andy’s father was James T. ELLER).   I believe this to be “our” Andy.  No known death certificate exists in Texas.  Could Andy have possibly died elsewhere, in WWI?  No record found.  Andy was supposedly “buried East of Robert Eller”  [Grave MIGHT have been located/Stm]

3.  ENNIS, James Madison (1848-1908); in Walden.  No death certificate found in Texas.

4.  RUTLEDGE, _____.  I believe this to be Baby Girl Rutledge (1898-1898).  I believe that, since the grave is described as being next to Effie, this baby is Effie’s sister.  Indeed, the 1900 Liberty County Texas census, Addie is the mother of one child, zero living.

5.  RUTLEDGE, Effie.  She was the daughter of Manie Eugene and Addie Lavena (GLENN) RUTLEDGE.  Effie was born in 1900, likely in Liberty County Texas (her parents were in the 1900 Liberty County Texas census, taken on 4 July 1900.  As Effie is not listed, she must have been born after that date).  Effie died in 1906.  The peculiar thing is that there is a stone in the cemetery that says “1900 – Infants of Maney and Addie Glenn Rutledge”.  If Effie was also born to them in 1900, could she have been one of triplets?

6.  STEWART, Dink.  Per his death certificate A[rthur] D “Daink” was born in Cedar Park, Texas to Jasper and (unknown) STEWART on 24 April 1878.  He died in Leander, Texas 11 September 1955.  Albert STEWART informant.

B. In Pond Springs Cemetery Williamson County, Texas 1997 Inventory:  An Eagle Scout Project by Mark Ryan Hood, the Williamson County Genealogical Society submitted Section 4-A “Other Burial Markers that have Disappeared since 1964” .  This section states that “Pond Springs Cemetery was copied in 1964 by the Charles A. Walker family of Austin.  Compiled by Jean Halden Walker and submitted in 1975 to the Williamson County Historical Commission”  It goes on to state that “A list of six people buried in Pond Spring (sic) Cemetery after 1964 and before 1975 was submitted by Mrs. J. A. Prewitt.  Four of them are included in Mark Hood’s 1997 inventory, but the following two are not.  Presumably, they have no markers”.  The following were buried 1964-1975:

7.  BLANCO, Doroteo (6 February 1895-23 December 1972; Death Certificate, obtained from Archives.com, states burial in Pond Springs Cemetery)

ELLER, Pleasant (29 March 1883-3 May 1969; Death Certificate, obtained from Archives.com, states burial in Pond Springs Cemetery) [grave MIGHT have been located/Stm]

C.  These are from Fold3.com, Williamson County Texas Death certificates, 1903-1965, chronological.  The following were buried in Pond Springs per their death certificates, but they are not enumerated in any transcription that I know of:

Baby Girl BIRD, daughter of Booker Melvin BIRD and Katie HAMILTON, born in Williamson County 16 September 1918, died in Williamson County 20 September 1918.  Booker Melvin BIRD was Effie May (BIRD) HUGGINS’ uncle.  This child would have been her cousin.  Baby Girl was one of twins; the grandson of her twin brother had a marker placed in September of 2013.

8.  STEWART, Beulah, born to Jim and Laura (WOODY) ELLER in Williamson County Texas on 22 August 1891, died in Williamson County Texas on 14 October 1918.  Beulah married Arthur A. “Dink” STEWART, and he is also buried in Pond Springs (stone also missing).

9.  Alvin Thomas JACKSON, born to John Thomas and Norah (BOATRIGHT) JACKSON in Williamson County Texas on 24 May 1899, died in Williamson County Texas 2 November 1919.   Alvin would have been the grandson of Javan Willis and Mary Jane (SMITH) JACKSON, as John Thomas JACKSON was their son.  Alvin would have also been the grandson of John L. and Rebecca (COLE) BOATRIGHT, as Nora was their daughter.

10.  Thomas SOLIZ, born to Thomas and Mary (ROBEO) SOLIZ in Bexar County Texas on 18 August 1916, died in Williamson County Texas 28 September 1920.

11.  Lola ARRIDONDO (1905-8 October 1921), daughter of Demetrio and Nestoria ARRIDONDO.

12.  George A. WALKER, born in Virginia (censuses says North Carolina) 11 November 1841, died in Williamson County Texas 19 June 1922. George seems to have been a lodger with the WALDEN family for many years. Informant:  Lee Walden. It is unclear at this time if this man is a relative of the Walker Family that performed the 1964 transcription.

Daniel Adam NANCE, born in Texas (probably Denton County) 20 February 1858 to Wright and Catherine (DOTY) NANCE, died in Rutledge, Williamson County Texas 27 January 1925 Married Martha Elizabeth MILLS in 1881, and had three sons:  Wright Caswell, Orville, and Ira L.  No further information.  UPDATE:  Although his death certificate says he was buried in Pond Springs, the family apparently changed their minds; he is buried in Llano City Cemetery.  I’ve left his notes here for future researchers.

EHRHARDT, Karl (10 September 1862-10 February 1929).  Son of Gottfried EHRHARDT and Helen Bustow.  Gottfried EHRHARDT is buried in Pond Springs.  IT APPEARS that his wife Helen, who predeceased her husband, is buried in Germany.  Karl’s wife, Friedericke (9 December 1874 – 28 January 1948), is buried in “Pflugerville Cemetery” per her death certificate (probably Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery and Mausoleum, 14501 N. IH-35, Pflugerville Texas 78660).  UPDATE:  Karl’s grave has been found next to his wife in Pflugerville.

13.  Feliz NOVA, born in Mexico ca. 1853, died 29 November 1943.

14.  Dwight Louis/Louie SWINDALL/SWINDELL, born in Williamson County Texas 5 March 1944, died in Williamson County Texas 6 March 1944.  Parents Elijah Armo and Josie Marie (GEORGE) SWINDALL.  Elijah SWINDALL was born 9 September 1914, and died in Harris County Texas 5 April 1991.  Dwight’s known siblings were John Wayne SWINDALL, Jodie Armo SWINDALL, Ronald George SWINDALL, and Joyce Lynn SWINDALL.  Josie Marie GEORGE was born to Lee Roy GEORGE and Alma Dean RICHARDS on 7 August 1915 (possibly in Gonzales Texas), and died 4 July 1991 in Austin, Travis County Texas.

15.  RAMOS, Elbira J. (12 April 1944-3 March 1946).  Daughter of Manuel and Louisa RAMOS.  Buried “Walden’s”

16.  Francisco Aguero PADILLA, born in Mexico to Gabriel and Louisa Maria PADILLA on 2 April 1872, died in Leander, Williamson County Texas 18 July 1947.

D.  These are from Fold3.com for Travis County Texas, 1903 – 1965, chronological. The following were buried in Pond Springs per their death certificates, but they are not enumerated in any transcription that I know of ; am still in the process of searching page-by-page:

HART, Mattie ca 1868 Gonzales, Texas – 23 December 1913.  Daughter of Silas HART and _____ BLASINGALE, widowed, buried “Walder”.  Mattie is our first known African American buried in Pond Springs.  UPDATE:  Mattie is buried in WAELDER Cemetery.  I’ve left his notes here for future researchers.

LENTZ, Cordelia “Cordie” 10 December 1883 – 18 March 1911.  Daughter of William and Lavina (HYLAND) CHAPMAN, buried “Rutledge”.    Since descendants placed a stone to her memory in 2011, in future blog entries Cordie will no longer be on the “Names with no Stones” list.

LENTZ, Dorothy Ellen 19 Jan 1910 – 24 Nov 1910.  Daughter of William LENTZ and Cordelia (CHAPMAN) LENTZ, buried “Rutledge”.    Since descendants placed a stone to her memory in 2011, in future blog entries Dorothy will no longer be on the “Names with no Stones” list.

17.  WATTS, Valdie ca. 1913 – 16 September 1918.  Daughter of Tobe WATTS and Bessie WARD.  Bessie WARD was a daughter of Richard and Charlsie WARD.  The informant was her brother Willie Ward. In my opinion Valdie WATTS is undoubtedly buried in the WARD plot.

18.  RAMOS, Josephin R.  “66 years old”, born in Mexico. Widow of Desidero Ramos.  Died 9 December 1937.

19.  AGUERE, Ananico/Aninico.  3 April 1939 – 3 March 1941.  Born in Briggs, Burnet County TX to Gabriel and Consuela (ABUNDEZ) AGUERE.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

E.  These are from Footnote.com for the entire State of Texas, 1903 – 1965, wildcard search for “Pond Springs”. The following were buried in Pond Springs per their death certificates, but they are not enumerated in any transcription that I know of (continuing number pattern).

21.  FERRILL, Adelle.  16 February 1921 – 27 May 1937.  Born in Oklahoma, parents unknown.  Wife of Stanley FERRILL of Kyle Texas (informant).   As far as I know, there is no Pond Springs Cemetery in Kyle/San Marcos.  Hays County TX Death Certificate 26756.  I have a suspicion that Adelle is actually buried in Hays County TX with her son, but since I have no proof otherwise, I have listed her here.

FERRILL, Baby Boy.  16 May 1937 – 16 May 1937.  Son of Stanley and Adelle (HAYS) FERRILL.   Hays County TX Death Certificate 26757.  Baby was apparently buried by his father in Hays County Texas.  I’ve left his notes here for future researchers.

Buried “Jollyville” which could also mean buried in Rhodes Cemetery or Jolly Cemetery, alphabetical by last name.  POSSIBLY BURIED HERE BUT MIGHT NOT BE:

22.  AGUEROS, Marcela. 16 June 1935 – 7 July 1936.

23.  BOCANEGRA, Paul.  19 July 1932 – 2 Oct 1933.  There are two tiny graves, covered in irises, as was tradition for babies, nearby to the GARCIAs.  Could these be Guadalupe and Paul Bocanegra?

24.  BOCANEGRA, Guadalupe.  16 October 1935 – 28 June 1936.  There are two tiny graves, covered in irises, as was tradition for babies, nearby to the GARCIAs.  Could these be Guadalupe and Paul Bocanegra?

27.  PARKS, Robert.  2 May 1930 – 2 May 1930.  Parents J and Ellie (MAXWELL) PARKS.  Informant CV SANDERS.  As the SANDERS family is buried in Rhodes Cemetery, Robert might be buried there.

28.  PRUETT, Baby Boy.  31 August 1946 – 31 August 1946.  Born in Austin Texas to Thomas J. and Viola (TOUNGATE) PRUETT.

29.  TORREY, T. Born in Mexico ca. 1875, died 20 February 1927.  Father James TORREY, mother unknown.  Informant Antonio RODRIGUEZ.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Family tradition/legend/assumption says that the following are buried here, no markers:

31.  JACKSON, Javan Willis/William.  20 October 1840 – 18 November 1918.  Javan died in Hamilton County Texas, but as his death certificate does not state where he is buried, I assume he is buried in Pond Springs next to his wife.

32.  PREECE, Anna Melissa (RUTLEDGE).  14 October 1850 – 19 August 1870.  Child of Thomas and Helen Camp Rutledge, who donated the land for the cemetery.  “Married Sept 14, 1869 Williamson Co., TX to William Martin Preece. Confirmation of Burial in this cemetery by direct line relative.”

  1. Does anyone out there know if I can find the location of Baby Girl Bird’s grave? She is my dad’s twin sister and I would love to put a stone on her grave.
    Thank you
