Long Lost Footstone Recovered

Newly Found Benn Franklin Footstone Placed At Foot Of Grave

The long-lost footstone belonging to the grave of infant, Benn Franklin, has been recovered in the cemetery. This footstone has been on our search list for sometime but had eluded us until yesterday, March 6. The footstone was reported to have been beside the large Pecan tree in the Southwest Quadrant of the cemetery in Mark R. Hood’s Survey conducted in 1997 as part of his Eagle Scout Project. The footstone was found about three feet away buried in the ground. Every once in a while Pond Springs Cemetery will give up some information or a clue to us as we work to reconstruct this cemetery. Strange as it may sound I can’t help but think that my work on the Irises allowed me to find this footstone. Finding this footstone does not give us any new information or grave location but it allows us to place an object back where it truly belongs. The broken headstone to Benn Franklin’s grave was repaired in late 2010 and the report can be found in this blog. — Buster
